Take your New Year’s Resolutions unit to the next level with this interactive, speaking-focused ESL PowerPoint lesson! Students build on their understanding of personal goals by discussing reasons, completing reading activities, developing critical thinking skills, and writing their own New Year’s resolutions.
This lesson encourages students to explain their ideas, justify their choices, and express personal opinions using complete English sentences.
Students continue practicing the following New Year’s resolutions:
- study harder
- be a better person
- exercise more
- watch less TV
- read more books
- get higher marks
- go to bed earlier
- eat healthier food
Students use this vocabulary to answer the target question:
“What is your New Year’s resolution?”
Example answers:
- “My goal is to exercise more.”
- “My goal is to read more books.”
- “My goal is to eat healthier food.”
Students also practice explaining why they chose each goal.
Example responses:
- “Because exercise is good for my body.”
- “Because I want to learn more things.”
- “Because healthy food makes me stronger.”
